Capital of West-Bengal becoms india's 1st Wi-Fi enabled City
Kolkata has become India’s first 4th Generation (4G) Wi-Fi metro city as the service was launched by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
This 4G Wi-Fi service will be rolled out in a planned manner in all the wards under Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and other areas of Kolkata.
Kolkata will be expected under Wi-Fi Coverage till April-May in 2015.
Private telecom operator, Reliance Jio is providing the 4G enabled service Wi-fi s in the city.
Initially Wi-Fi services provided freely by goverment without charge. The services inaugurated by the West Bengal chief minister, Mamta Banerjee have been first made
available at Park Street.
It will be next available in the Ghariahat-Gol Park area of South Kolkata and accordingly by the end of April 2015, the whole city will be WiFi enabled.
Reliance JIO spokesperson refer to media , "We have laid cables along a 500-km stretch of the city.
The major part of Kolkata has been covered and the work in other parts is in progress. We are aiming to bring the entire Kolkata Telephones area under
our 4G coverage. It might take another eight months to a year to do the job.
The WiFi services would enable any WiFi device users to log on to the internet zone using a password provided.
For Smartphone users, the services are available just a simple click away on the WiFi option.
