Located in the wilderness in the south of the Russian region of Siberia, Lake Baikal holds two simultaneous world record for the deepest freshwater lake and the largest lake on the planet. The Lake Baikal has an area of 31.722 km2 with a depth of 1,642 m. This is the oldest freshwater lake in the world, launched more than 25-30 million years ago from a fracture of the crust.

Baikal is rich in biodiversity. It hosts 1,085 species of plants and
1,550 species and varieties of animals. Special seals called Nerpa
Baikal has become a symbol of the Baikal natural heritage.
Most
visitors come to Lake Baikal in summer. In winter, all the water in
Lake Baikal freezes bring tourists delight. They can participate in
activities such as camping, biking, hiking ... on the ice. This is also a
source of endless inspiration for the sculpture, the art of creating
beautiful patterns on the ice.
Baikal was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996.
